Church salary scales is the title of a new set of Training Notes uploaded to the Resources section of the website today. It gives ten sets of questions Trustees and Staff Pay Groups should ask when seeking to design a fair set of salaries for any church or mission with a staff team.
The design of an appropriate set of salary scales for a mixed-mode but small staff team is more complex than many people realise. The new Notes do not attempt easy answers but, by asking the right questions, will help any church seeking to tackle this issue with due thoroughness.
Issues tackled include differentials, market forces, Living Wage, overtime and concepts such as stipend as opposed to salary and the idea of vocation.
