The issue of why a church exists is fundamental to decision-making, programme planning or any administrative exercise. But many Christians are vague as to what a legitimate answer should be.
These notes see what Scripture has to say on the issue, notice how many churches divert from this, and lists a developing series of views about 'church' from seeing the word as relating to a building through to discipleship of Jesus Christ. There is then a suggested basis for answering the question.
