Church trustees are responsible for the staff they employ

'Many church Trustees fail to appreciate the responsibility they carry for the selection, employment and management of their staff.' This situation is addressed in Training Notes TN130, Appoint a 'Staff Action Group', just uploaded to this website.

The Notes advise proper delegation, not escaping the responsibility but ensuring, through the appointment of a small, specialist group, that it is carried out well.
There is help on defining the group's purpose, membership, name and, especially, responsibilities. These might include ensuring compliance with employment legislation, seeking best practice in selection, ensuring there is quality line management and to guide the Trustees when problems occur, among others.
