NEW: Take your church away

The organisation of a successful church weekend (away or at home) is a complex task. Here is detailed advice on how to do it well, written for those responsible and for all church leaders.

Ten aspects, divided into four broad areas, are covered:

  • The foundations (The purpose and theme, Options to consider)
  • The people (Organising Team, Self-catering, Speakers and leaders)
  • The preparation (Publicity, Financial arrangements)
  • The weekend (Programme, Young people, Follow-up)

The article has drawn on the experience of practitioners and provides a range of options with comment at each point in the process. It can be applied not only to a residential weekend away but to other special weekends, events for smaller groups and church holidays too.

A detailed checklist of actions to take at each stage, items to include in mailings and advice on working with the conference centre is provided in a supplement linked from the article.

Article A30, Take your church away, is now available in the ‘Articles’ listing of the Resources section of the website and also in the ‘Planning’ index. As always you are welcome to download this and/or print up to 30 copies without charge.

Church Administrator Area Training Days

Over the past two years the UK Church Administrator Network (UCAN) has been running a series of Area Training Days on roles for both Administrator and church office. These have proved to be very successful. The series ends this May and upcoming events include Bath (this next Monday) and Southampton on 8th May (details available on the website next week). A new series will start in the late-autumn.

But I am organising a special Area Training Day in this first series in central London:

City Temple, Holborn Viaduct, EC1 on 22nd April: 11.30 am. -  5.00 pm.

Full details on the UCAN events page in the Administrators section of my website. The venue and the later timing from normal have been chosen to enable Administrators from outside the capital to obtain cheap train tickets.

If your church employs an Administrator
Please check that they are members of UCAN and, if they have not attended one of these days over the past two years, whether members or not, encourage them to come to the London day.

If you are a Church Administrator yourself
If this e-letter was mailed directly to you that means you are not yet a member of UCAN. You are missing so much! Check out the Administrators section of my website, join today at this link to get the members’ price for the training day, and come to London on 22nd April for inspiration, encouragement and networking.
