Synopsis

Ministers of larger churches meet a perplexing range of demands. Without the framework of a job description / role description in some form, priorities can be difficult to assess.

Here is a possible role description listing ten key responsibilities, to act as a template for any specific appointment. It is written with an Anglican incumbent in mind but can be easily adapted to a different structural environment.

  1. Own spiritual growth
  2. Church vision
  3. Preaching/teaching
  4. Public worship
  5. Staff team
  6. Lay ministry
  7. Decision making
  8. Parish
  9. Deanery/diocese
  10. Self-care

The template is then followed by a short set of notes to explain, among other things, the dangers of others' expectations and the order chosen for the responsibilities listed.
