We are looking into the option of online donations but so far I can see there is a 2% cost to the provider. Does anyone have experience of this and any wisdom to offer? Thanks!

I shall be very interested to see if any churches are doing this or just thinking about it. Presumably the percentage applied depends on amount. I've initiated PayPal on this website where there is a 3.4% charge plus 20p per transaction (a reducing percentage if over £1,500 per month) but that can be for small amounts.

We have a PayPal button on the Giving Page of our website, as well as our bank account number and sort code. Bear in mind that these days a lot of people use online banking and so the concept of "online donations" can be as simple as publicising those two bits of data and encouraging people to send you money! So far, the vast bulk of our congregational giving is still via Standing Order, though.

I've been given to understand that having bank account details on a website leaves one vulnerable to those details being harvested by automated programs that then attempt to remove funds from the account. A safer option is to have a link to a pdf Standing Order form from which donors can also extract the necessary information for on-line banking.

The Co-op bank offer a completely free service. It is free both to the donor and the recipient. It is called Charity Choice http://www.charitychoice.co.uk/.
We are using it succesfully on our web site. www.stpaulssalisbury.org/giving.
Hope that helps.
