John's vision is to see an effective Church throughout Great Britain and Ireland.
Effectiveness involves putting Christ first, making wise choices, doing things well, and achieving plans. He longs to see all churches and mission agencies excel in these four areas.
As part of his vision for the Church he seeks a proper understanding and use of organisational gifts in all aspects of community life and corporate witness. There needs to be fresh thinking about this in local churches, in the structures of church government, in theological training, and in mission agencies.
In each assignment or event, this vision works out as a prayer that:
- those involved will have a new sense
of what it means to be a disciple of Christ, with a renewed enthusiasm
for following him and growing in their faith;
- they will also see a significant
increase in their effectiveness in practical service, whether
they are leaders or followers, staff or volunteers, solo workers or team members.
Foundations
The foundations for his ministry are:
- A belief that this is God's work - we are his servants. So prayer supporters are valued and essential co-workers.
- A determination to focus all work on the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- An enthusiasm for the Spirit's gift of administration equipping the Church to serve Christ in the world.
- A clear understanding and right application of Scripture to provide the basic principles for all activity.
Values
John seeks to display:
- Wholeness
... the importance in Christian work of spiritual and relational health,
and of mental and physical fitness.
- Service
... the highest possible standards of pastoral sensitivity, empathy,
confidentiality and client care, always valuing people before systems.
- Innovation
... the spark of creativity, holding a clear understanding of today's Church and society, while being ready to be prophetically counter-cultural when required.
- Quality
... excellence in all forms of output, in value for money, and in
reliability and efficiency.
- Simplicity
... bringing healing through the most straightforward solutions that
are possible in a complex world.
