UCAN categories

These four categories clearly merge into one another. When joining UCAN choose the one that most closely describes your post. Points 1 and 2 each time are the most important ones. If the minimum hours shown in point 4 does not fit the category you believe you fall into please ask, but the network is currently designed only for those who are employed (or who work voluntarily) for at least 8 hours per week.

Senior Manager

  1. Wide responsibility at 'executive' / 'senior staff' level working in close co-operation with the senior Minister, usually in a large church.
  2. Responsible for the operation of the strategic plan over a range of areas such as HR, communication, finance, plant, IT, volunteer mobilisation, events.
  3. Line manager for the other administrative staff in a large church, or oversight of other staff, interns and/or volunteer teams in a medium sized church.
  4. Normally a full-time salaried post, but if part-time at least 16 hours per week.
  5. Job titles such as Director of Operations, Operations Manager, Senior Administrator, Church Co-ordinator, Administrative Manager.
     
     

Church Administrator

  1. Wide responsibility for the church’s office and administrative function. The main administrator in a medium or small church or No. 2 in a large church.
  2. Responsible for administrative services to staff and other leaders including managing the church office, communication, plant, IT, events. May also act as the Minister’s PA as a secondary role.
  3. Line manager / supervisor for any office or clerical staff, interns and/or volunteers.
  4. May be a full-time salaried post, but sometimes part-time of at least 12 hours per week.
  5. Job titles such as Church Office Manager, Church Administrator, Parish Secretary, Executive Secretary, Office Administrator.
     
     

Office or Personal Assistant

  1. Responsibility for specific aspects of administration in assisting a Church Administrator, manning a church office, or serving as PA to the Minister or other staff.
  2. Responsible for administrative services as instructed or managed by others.
  3. May be responsible for volunteers or clerical staff.
  4. Usually a part-time post and of at least 8 hours per week, but can be full-time.
  5. Job titles such as Administrative Assistant, Office Staff, Church Secretary, Office Assistant, Minister’s PA.
     
     

Project Manager

  1. Responsibility limited to one or more specific areas of organisation, but can be at a senior level within this.
  2. Responsible for administrative services in one area such as finance, events, plant, IT.
  3. May be responsible for volunteers or other staff within this limited area.
  4. Usually a part-time post of at least 8 hours a week, and may sometimes be voluntary or short-term, but can be full-time and permanent.
  5. Job titles such as Finance Officer, Events Organiser, New Build Supervisor, Project Co-ordinator.
