UCAN benefits

Belonging to UCAN will give you added value, though probably in different ways for different people. The value of the network will grow as membership increases: we have grown by almost 200 in the past year to over 600 members now.

Reasons why you need UCAN

Here is a range of possibilities, though it will be the membership that decides as far as possible what we offer in:

  1. Providing access to an online database of others to contact and/or visit in your area or denomination, or in roles similar to yours or in churches of a similar size to yours.
  2. Laying on events designed to encourage and support you in your work. We are currently running a series of Area Training Days around the UK to offer professional training, opportunities to discuss practical issues and the chance to meet others.
  3. Organising specialist events for 'senior manager' Church Administrators through our 'Cutting Edge' programme (the latest conference was at High Leigh in March 2011).
  4. Mailing a bimonthly e-newsletter sharing information about issues that relate to your job, helping you see more of the spiritual and strategic nature of this role and giving news of specialist resources.
  5. Offering advice on professional issues relating to your work (there are already a number of web forums discussing IT, buildings, church offices, HR issues, etc. and a range of other resources available to members only on this site).
  6. Providing encouragement and support to Administrators serving Christ for whom the going is tough, who are isolated in their church or who feel unappreciated and undervalued by leaders and others.

Reasons why UCAN needs you

But UCAN is far more than a society designed for the benefits of its members. The larger the membership, the more we shall be able to bless Christ’s Church through:

  1. Promoting the value of Administrator appointments to release leaders with other gifts to focus on their ministries so that the Church can grow.
  2. Encouraging a greater national profile for the spiritual gifts of administration and so promoting theological study, training and practical application in this area.
  3. Offering information about the kind of appointments that churches are making across the UK to help congregations considering a new or developed post.
  4. Building up a growing source of good practice in administrative matters, enabling churches to become better at handling this area of church life, whether they have a paid appointment or not.
